AI Goes to Church: Exploring Artificial Intelligence and Ethics

📆 Saturday, 23 May 2026
🕑 9.30am – 12pm
📍 Covenant Chapel, L4
🗣️ Dr Kelvin Chong (SBC) & Assoc. Prof. Tham Chen Khong (NUS)

This seminar explores the growing presence of Artificial Intelligence and its potential impact on the life and mission of the church. Participants will gain an understanding of science of Artificial Intelligence.

The talk aims to answer some of the question we may have about Artificial Intelligence, such as, What is and is not AI? Where is AI impacting/affecting out society? What does it mean to use tools that can generate content, make predictions, or shape human behaviour? Just as importantly, the talk will address the ethical implications of using or not using AI – exploring whether use/not use of AI may hinder accessibility, stewardship, or effective engagement with the world the church seeks to serve.

This Talk invites church leaders and congregants to engage AI with wisdom rather than fear, discernment rather than uncritical adoption. We will reflect on how the church/ministry can faithfully navigate emerging technologies while remaining centered on our calling to bear witness to Christ, nurturing authentic faith, discipleship, and spiritual formation.

Holy Dying: A Christian Perspective on a Good End of Life

📆 Saturday; 27 Jun 2026
🕑 10am – 12pm
📍 Jordan Hall
🗣️ BE Rev Dr Wee Boon Hup

“Help us to live as those who are prepared to die.
And when our days here are accomplished,
enable us to die as those who go forth to live,
so that living or dying, our life may be in you,
and that nothing in life or in death will be able to separate us
from your great love in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

This quote is part of a prayer during A Service of Death and Resurrection, found in the United Methodist Hymnal. When our days on earth are done, we want our life to end well. It is an expectation that has followed humanity for centuries. As community of faith, we teach people how to live well. However, we are slow to teach how to die well. This seminar will explore briefly the biblical and theological perspectives on the subject with the hope that we would at least begin to start thinking and preparing for it from the starting point of faith.
