In one of the home visits, I sensed that a young man needed help and was open to receiving Christ. Fearing opposition from his family, he was reluctant to accept when several church leaders were urging him to. Nearing the end of the home visit, I sat next to him and prayed for his medical situation. At the same time, I explained that receiving Jesus is a personal decision, and we do not have to inform the church leaders if he is uncomfortable. He agreed, and I led him to say the sinner’s prayer. PTL.
Firstly, I’m very appreciative of Brother Chris, as the Trip Leader, who was very persistent and persuasive to my signing up for this trip. Also, I’m thankful that he led the team very ably given his past trips’ experience. Cassandra (Chris’ daughter) was also very diligent and helpful before, during and even after the trip. Actually, every tripper in the team was very caring towards one another and very cooperative to the mission.
We prayed for God to lead and guide us in all our preparation and briefing, which was very thorough and intentional. I’m glad we did what we needed to do to prepare as much as possible, but we still leave a lot of space and curiosity for God to do His work through us.
Hence, the Daily Devotion in the morning was very meaningful and necessary as we listen to God (and one another), for His Direction and Purpose. I’m very encouraged by all the sharing, the songs we sang and the bible verses we read. I’m also touched by the words, hearts and actions of the team, especially during House Visits where we really shared the Love of Jesus to everyone we met.
Personally, it was during one of those House Visits that God really moved me. This was “unplanned” and it was at the end of a very long day. The local pastor told us about this household, mainly mother and son, that just had a bereavement 3 days ago. The father who was the head of the family has passed on after coming down with kidney failure about 3 years ago. Most of us were already very tired physically, but we still said we want to go and visit the family. We have no much experience with bereavement or grieving families, but we went along as the Spirit leads. The atmosphere was heavy inside the house. We all sat crossed legs in a circle against the walls, and started sharing about our purpose of our visit. When the son spoke about his late father, I suddenly had a prompting from the Holy Spirit to join him and pray for him. So I broached the difficult question to ask if his father was a believer in Christ before he died. And his reply was yes and they used to attend Church services regularly as a family after his retirement from the military 7-8 years ago. I immediately asked if he can recollect any happy memories about his father. Again, his reply was yes, and that he was a well-respected, responsible and loving father who took good care of him and his mum. He had a good relationship with his father. At this moment, I just felt that I should let him know that his father has just left us “temporarily” and we would all meet him again one day in Heavens. I could feel the room lightened up as I prayed for him and the family, and through our local interpreter I sensed that they understood and felt the Power and Love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, especially the young man. He told me he would continue his father’s good work and take care of his mum. The Holy Spirit was there to touch and comfort everyone in that house, including myself. Great is thy Faithfulness! All Glory to God!!
